Social Communication Program
Educating students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other low incidence disorders to promote independence, community involvement, and improve quality of life across their lifespan.
The Social Communication Program provides services for children with autism with the most intense needs. A classroom teacher and up to three educational assistants provide sufficient amounts of adult attention in one-to-one or small group instructional settings to meet individualized goals. Speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are provided according to Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).

Rachelle Yakumithis, Supervisor

Rachelle is entering her eighth year with the Social Communications Classroom (SCC). She began her tenure in 2018 as an Intervention Specialist and transitioned into an administrative role in 2020. With 28 years of experience in education, Rachelle has had the privilege of collaborating with and learning from outstanding educators and students across public, charter, and private schools throughout the State of Ohio. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Toledo and her graduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, she has completed all coursework in Educational Leadership at the University of Dayton. Rachelle resides in Springboro with her husband, daughter, and their family dog. She is deeply committed to the belief that all students can learn and thrive when provided with the proper support and opportunities. Her focus remains on fostering a school environment that is engaging and responsive to the unique needs of each student.

Kelly Buelt, Supervisor

Kelly is entering her tenth year with the Social Communications Program, where she has served as a high school and elementary teacher, lead teacher, assistant supervisor, and now supervisor. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences from Ohio University, her Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Cincinnati, and her Master’s certificate in Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, and Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Kelly has been dedicated to advocating for individuals with disabilities since high school and is passionate about creating environments and supporting teachers in meeting the academic and emotional needs of all students to ensure all students feel valued, understood, and empowered to succeed. She lives in Monroe with her husband, John, their son, Noah, and their dog, CC.

Ashley Haley, Asst. Supervisor

Ashley is entering her fifth year with the Social Communications Program and her first year as Assistant Supervisor. She previously taught for three years in Project Warren County, the program’s transition-based initiative, and spent one year teaching at the high school level. Ashley earned her bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of Cincinnati and holds licensure in both K–12 Mild to Moderate and K–12 Moderate to Intensive Intervention. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Educational Administration at Xavier University. Ashley lives in Mason with her husband and their dog. She is especially passionate about advocating for expanded adult programming and services, as well as implementing structured interventions that help prepare students for successful adult lives.
